Frank “T-Bone” Lewis

Frank “T-Bone” Lewis is a native of Wise, Virginia. The 1999 Sports Hall of Fame inductee was a star basketball player for the Wasps.

Lewis was an all-state basketball star during his years at E&H. He transferred to Emory & Henry after playing two years at Hiwassee Junior College. In 1959, he captained the team and led all small colleges in the nation while shooting 72% from the field. His junior year, Lewis was named to the All-Smoky Mountain Athletic Conference team. He was also awarded Gold Medal First Team All-American.

Lewis spent his life as a coach, teacher, guidance counselor at R.B Worthy and Northwood High Schools. He earned the title of winningest basketball coach at R.B. Worthy High School. In addition to coaching, Lewis served as a basketball official for 20years and a football official for 38 years. Lewis is in the Hiwassee Sports Hall of Fame, Smyth County Sports Hall of Fame, and received the Viriginia High School Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award as well.

From 1972-79, Lewis served on the Saltville Town Council for four years and was Mayor of Saltville for 26 years.
