Fred R. Bailey

Class of 1928 / Inducted 1972 - Charter Member / Football

Fred R. Bailey was a native of Davy, West Virginia. This 1928 graduate left Emory & Henry with a Bachelor of Arts degree and 12 sports letters. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1972, its charter year, in acknowledgement of his accomplishments as a football player.

Bailey was involved in a variety of business and civic activities. He worked for 37 years in the Flight Department of American Airlines at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. 19 of those years were spent as Superintendent of Flight and eight years as a jet captain. Bailey retired in 1965, but remained active in his community, serving as a Board of Trustee Member for Indian Head Park from 1967 to 1971 and as Superintendent of Public Works at Indian Head Park.

Bailey received a handful of professional and civic awards including the American Airlines Service Award in 1954 and 1965, as well as an Award of Merit in 1971 from the Indian Head Park Board of Trustees.

Fred R. Bailey died on December 14, 1993 at the age of 88.
