Kay Turner Poindexter

Class of 1985 / Inducted 2010 / Women's Basketball

Kay Turner Poindexter graduated from Emory & Henry College in 1985. She was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 in light of her accomplishments on the basketball court and as a student at the college.

Poindexter was a four-year letterwinner on the women’s basketball team who started two years at Forward and Center. In 1983, the team went 10-6 in conference play and Poindexter was named to the All-ODAC Second Team. The next year, the team went 16-3 in the ODAC and Poindexter was named First Team, awarded ODAC Player of the Year, and received All-State recognition. That season she averaged 14.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and shot 56.7%.

At the time of her graduation, Poindexter held the school records for most rebounds in a game (20) and best single-season field goal shooting percentage (56.7%).

Poindexter, a native of Roanoke, Virginia, went on to a career in business and later as a physical education teacher.
