Alderson Propps

Alderson “Stretch” Propps was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame as a charter member in 1972. He was an All-American football player during his collegiate career and is also a member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Propps participated in varsity football, basketball, and track. He was named All-Conference, All-State, and Little All-America in football, as well as being an honorable mention of the Associated Press All-America.

After graduating from college, Propps served as an athletic director and head coach at Pulaski High School and at Covington High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy as an Executive Officer during World War II. He retired from the Navy in 1972 after 30 years of service and moved to Orlando, Florida. Here Propps earned became a coach and athletic director at Morris Harvey College before attending the University of Florida to attain a master’s degree in elementary and secondary school administration. He then spent many years as a teacher and administrator in Orange County Schools.

Propps stayed involved in athletics as an official. He was an organizer of the Central Florida Officials Association and he officiated college football and basketball games. He was inducted into the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

Alderson Propps was born on October 17, 1912 and died on August 10, 1993 at age 80.
