Sarah Caldwell Wellenhoffer

Sarah Caldwell Wellenhoffer (’04), inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, was an outstanding pitcher for the softball program from 2001-04, leading the team to its best four year record in program history.  During that stretch, the Wasps had an overall record of 106-53 for a 67% winning percentage during Wellenhoffer’s career.

She was a leader on the storied 2003 team that won the ODAC Championship and made the program’s first appearance in the NCAA tournament.  The team finished 22-12 overall, 12-4 in ODAC play and finished fourth in the South region.  The next year, during the 2004 campaign in which the Wasps finished with a record of 28-14, Wellenhoffer was selected as All-ODAC First Team, ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year and Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  In that same year, she was also awarded the prestigious and highly selective NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.

As of her induction, Wellenhoffer still held a host of E&H pitching records, including lowest season ERA (.89), most season wins (17), most career wins (56), most career complete games (64), most career games started (82) and most career innings pitched (532).  In addition, she is ranked in the top 10 in every other E&H statistical category for pitchers.

Wellenhoffer graduated from Emory & Henry in 2004 with a major in Chemistry and minor in Biology.  She completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Delaware in 2006.  She went on to serve as the Senior Director of Rehabilitation Services at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA.  She is married to E&H assistant football coach, Josh Wellenhoffer (’03) and they have a son, Spencer and a daughter, Madison.
