Ann Thomas
When the E&H athletics program lost the beloved Dave Thomas as the chief facilities person, staff thought that there could never be anyone to step into his shoes. He was widely known for his dedication to the programs and student-athletes, his attention to detail in caring for the facility and his incredible work ethic. But when Dave’s wife, Ann, said she would like to try the job, it was soon learned that the shoes were a perfect fit. Ann embodied the same qualities of dedication, attention to detail and the same strong work ethic as her late husband.
Ann served loyally in the King Center for 14 years until her retirement in 2016. She arrived early, stayed late, worked weekends for any event or project and approached every task with energy and the commitment to get it done right. Staff say that you never saw Ann standing still because she was always busy doing floors, doing laundry, doing windows and always doing it with a smile. She is a past winner of the Fanelli Award for outstanding service to women’s athletics. Ann also received the Blue & Gold Staff Award which is awarded by E&H for commendable service to the College.
The Hall of Fame revived the tradition begun by the very first E&H Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee which was to award the Certificate of Appreciation to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the realm of E&H athletics. Ann Thomas was awarded the Certificate of Appreciate by the E&H Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
