Bobby Hill
Bobby Hill graduated from Emory & Henry in 1973. He was a three-year starter at the position safety in the defensive backfield.
Team records for those seasons from 1969-1972 are not great: but it surely wasn’t for lack of trying on Bobby’s part!
He still ranks fourth in the E&H record book for number of career interceptions – with 17 interceptions to his name. In 1969 he garnered 9 pass interceptions, and ran for 126 return yards. He still comes in at 3rd on the Emory & Henry list for return yardage.
In 1970, he received Honorable Mention AP All-State honors.
In 1971, he was named First-Team AP All-State.
And also in 1971, he received AP Honorable Mention Little All-American honors.
Bobby will be long remembered for his athletic accomplishments but also for his work as an artist and a man who served his community. One letter of nomination stated: “While others took note of his considerable talent on the gridiron, I was always awed by his determination to make the world a better place. He was one of those individuals who believed that all human beings deserved to have decent lives free of pain caused by poverty, racism and injustice. Bobby’s goal in life seemed to be service to others, and he did that with finesse and skill that paralleled the way he played football.”
Bobby died in February of 2016.
