Olin F. Stickley

Olin F. “Stick” Stickley, a guard and a kicker for the Emory & Henry football team in the late 1920s, was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1973.

Though he was a great offensive and defensive guard, Stickley is most remembered for his field goal kicking. In the 1928 state championship, Stickley kicked the field goal that put Emory & Henry on the board and ultimately won the game over a scoreless College of William and Mary. During his collegiate career, he earned All-State and All-Smoky Mountain Region.

After graduating from Emory & Henry, Stickley became a teacher and administrator. He held a number of jobs after leaving the education field, including bookkeeper, cattle farmer, bank director, and office manager.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, O. F. Stickley passed away on March 20, 1982.
