Richard N. Lawrence
Richard N. Lawrence, a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 for his achievements as a quarterback, punter, and defensive player on the Emory & Henry football team. Lawrence lettered in football all four years. He was elected captain his senior year.
In addition to football, Lawrence was a member of the Hermesian Society and Dom-I-Necher social fraternity. He later became a member of the Board of Visitors of Emory & Henry College and made significant financial contributions to his alma mater.
For over 40 years Lawrence owned and operated N.P. Lawrence Company, a food brokerage business. He was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on the official board, was an usher, and was in the S.C. Williams Sunday School Class.
Richard Lawrence passed away on September 10, 1991.
