Curtis L. Campbell
Curtis “Curt” Campbell of Wytheville, Virginia was a dual sport athlete at Emory & Henry, lettering in both baseball and football. The 1964 graduate was inducted into the E&H Sports Hall of Fame in 1980 for his accomplishments on the Wasps’ football team.
Campbell lettered two years in baseball and four years in football. As an offensive tackle, he was an honorable mention selection for the Knoxville News-Sentinel All-Star squad three years and for the All-Virginia team two years.
After graduation, Campbell went on to earn a master’s degree from Radford University. He refereed Virginia High School League tournaments in basketball and football, as well as Division I and Division III women’s college basketball. What’s more, he served Wythe County School District as a teacher, then as a principal, and lastly as assistant superintendent until he retired.
