Dave C. “Dave” Robbins

David C. Robbins excelled as a football player at Emory & Henry in the late 1960s. A four-year letterman in football at Emory & Henry, Robbins made the Virginia Small College All-State squad in 1968 and 1969 as a defensive end. His junior year, the Wasps went 9-1 and ended the season ranked tenth in the nation. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.

After graduating, Robbins served as head football coach at Castlewood High School and subsequently Morristown Hamblen High School. He returned to Emory & Henry and served as an assistant football coach from 1974-77. During this time, he also served as head track coach and rejuvenated the program, leading the Wasps to a winning season and producing an All-American javelin thrower, Norman Ellis.

Robbins earned a master of science degree from University of Tennessee. He went on to become manager of the Virginia and Maryland territory for Piedmont Explosives, Inc. and is active in the Society of Explosive Engineers.
