Lisa M. Countiss

Lisa M. Countiss, a Bristol native, was inducted into the Sport Hall of Fame in 1989 for her outstanding collegiate tennis career.  She joined her father “Tack” Countiss, former Emory & Henry basketball star, as a member of the Sports Hall of Fame.

Countiss lettered four years in tennis at Emory & Henry College at the number one spot for singles. Countiss played number one in both singles and doubles on the 1980 state champion team, which ranked twelfth in the nation. During the state tournament in 1980, she placed third in singles and won doubles with partner and fellow Hall of Fame member Lynn Hill.

In 1981, Countiss won the Virginia state singles championship, Region II singles championship, and fought her way to the semifinals of the consolations bracket to place seventh in the nation. She qualified for AIAW Division III national championships as a senior and was the first E&H women’s tennis player to ever compete in in a national tournament.
