William Pippin

William “Bill” Pippin was an all-around athlete who lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 for his contributions as a member of the 1949-50 football team that played in the Tangerine Bowl under head coach Conley Snidow.

After graduating, Pippin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Puerto Rico during the Korean War. When he returned to the mainland, he taught and coached at Abingdon High School, and later at Wallace High School. He played semi-professional baseball in the Burley Belt League for the Abingdon Blues. Pippin left teaching to work as a sales representative for Dillard Paper Company, where he stayed for 37 years until his retirement in 1992.

William Pippin, a native of Bristol, Tennessee, died on September 15, 1995 at age 67.
