Keith Furr

A 1987 graduate of Emory & Henry, Keith Furr was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 in honor of his accomplishments on the Wasps football team.

Furr played football for E&H from 1983-1986 and finished his career second on the all-time E&H interception list with 18. In his first two seasons, he returned 32 punts for a total of 261 yards, had 3 interceptions, 2 broken passes, 29 tackles, and 18 assists. In both his junior and senior seasons, Furr was named Defensive Back of the Year, All-ODAC, All-State, and All-American.

In his junior year, Furr held national records for interception returns and punt returns for touchdowns. Additionally, he held school records in several categories related to interceptions. In 1985, Furr set the ODAC record for interceptions in a season with 10 on the year. He was named an All-American by the Associated Press and Football News, All-Conference, All-State by the Roanoke Times & World-News, and received the Emory & Henry Award for Defensive MVP. Upon graduation, Furr was second all-time in career interceptions in the ODAC with 18.

In Furr’s final season, the team went 10-1 in the regular season, earning a bid to post-season competition for the national title in the NCAA Division III. Their overall 10-2 record overall was the best record in 35 years. They concluded the year ranked in the nation’s top 15 small-college squads and were the top-ranked team in the ODAC in all defensive categories. Individually, Furr was named All-Conference, All-State by the College Sports Information Directors of America and Roanoke Times & World-News, and All-America by Pizza Hut and Little All-America by the Associated Press. He once again received the Emory & Henry Award for Defensive MVP.

After graduating from Emory & Henry, Furr went on to become the Vice President of Gull Corporation.
