Michael E. Lindsay

Michael E. Lindsay is a native of Forest, Virginia. A dual-sport star, Lindsay was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 for his accomplishments in both baseball and football.

Lindsay played four years of football and four years of baseball, earning All-Conference honors in both sports. On the football field, Lindsay was selected to the VaSID All-State team, All-ODAC First Team and All-America Third Team in 1984. During the season, Lindsay led the ODAC in interceptions with eight. He even picked off three passes in one game, which was tied for a school record at the time. Lindsay was relatively small and lean at 5’11” and 165 pounds, and was known not only for his speed, but his intelligence on the field. He was a part of Emory & Henry’s first ODAC football title in 1985. That season, the senior was selected to the All-ODAC Second Team. Lindsay totaled 12 interceptions in his four-year career.

On the baseball diamond, Lindsay was a three-time First Team All-ODAC player. He hit .395 and stole 20 bases during the 1984 season. In 1985, Lindsay batted .434 and led the ODAC in stolen bases with 27 while earning the titles of Most Valuable Player and co-captain. And in 1986, the senior hit .385 and stole a career-high 28 bases. Lindsay accumulated a career batting average over .400 and stole 88 bases.

Lindsay earned his master’s in business administration from Millsaps College and found employment with Kenworth of Jackson, Inc. as a finance and insurance manager. He and his family now live in Birmingham, Alabama, and he is a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
