Kenny Woods

Kenneth G. “Kenny” Woods, a native of Paris, Kentucky, was a standout basketball player at Emory & Henry. After transferring from Ferrum College after his sophomore year, he was selected to the Virginia Small College All-State team in both 1971 and 1972. Woods’ accomplishments earned him induction into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Known for being a generous teammate, Woods at one time held the record for single-season assists. He was also one of only four players in Emory & Henry men’s basketball history to have scored 1,000 points in just two seasons. Between Woods and teammate John Smith,who is also in the Hall of Fame, nine school records were established their senior year. Woods’ records included highest career average (21.8), most career assists (159), most consecutive free throws (19), and most total points in a single game.

Woods served for a long time as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an AAU girls basketball coach for the Central Kentucky Storm Girls AAU Basketball Team. He was a member of the NAACP and Kiwanis Club. He was also a 2002 inductee into the Paris High School Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a high school athlete.

Kenny Woods tragically died in an automobile accident at age 54 on January 2, 2005.
