Steve Bowman
Steve Bowman played for the Emory & Henry football team from 1985 to 1988, serving as a team captain during his senior year. He was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
A 6’5”, 291 pound defensive tackle, Bowman played in every game his sophomore, junior, and senior years, and an additional six games his freshman year. During his collegiate football career, Bowman accounted for 206 tackles, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups, and 13 quarterback sacks.
In 1988, in Bowman’s senior season, the Wasps held the number one spot in the ODAC in total defense, allowing their opponents an average of 273.1 yards per game in total offense. During that season, he made 108 tackles and eight quarterback sacks, which earned him First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-State, and First Team All-America recognition, as well as being awarded the title Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman of the Year by his coaches.
During his four year career at E&H, the Wasps football team compiled a 37-10 record, won three ODAC Championship titles, and were crowned champions of the NCAA South Region during his third season after receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA playoffs.
After graduating in 1989, Bowman pursued a career in business, becoming the Director of Business Development for the Oakwood Systems Group.
