Brandon Matheny

Brandon D. Matheny was a lefty pitcher with an 88 mile per hour fastball. He received a number of honors and recognitions during his collegiate career and was drafted into the major league in 2000. Matheny was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Matheny attended Emory & Henry from 1997-2000. He was first team All-State and led the nation in strikeouts in 1998 and 2000. He was also named All-Conference in 2000.

His senior year, Matheny led the ODAC with an ERA of 1.41 and 97 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .150 batting average and had an average 13.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

Matheny finished his career at Emory & Henry ranked 4th in Division III baseball for career strikeouts with 340. This impressive statistic remains an Emory & Henry and ODAC record. He was 11th in Division III in fewest hits allowed per nine innings with 6.29 allowed. He finished his collegiate career with an ERA of 2.93.

In 2000, Matheny was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft. Matheny played four seasons in the minor league. His professional career record was 18-14 with 214 strikeouts. He played for the AAA team in Buffalo with the Cleveland organization and also had stints with the Rockies farm team and the Kansas City T-Bones.
