Charles “PeeDee” Peterson

Charles “PeeDee” Peterson was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 in light of his accomplishments as a defensive back and return specialist on the Wasps football team. Peterson’s athletic honors include being a two-time All-ODAC and All-State selection as well as being named First Team All-America as a defensive back and Second Team as a return specialist.

Peterson led the conference in interceptions in the 1997 and 1999 seasons and ranks in the top 10 in the conference record books for career interceptions (16). He helped the Wasps to three-straight conference championships in the 1996-98 seasons. His senior year, Peterson boasted 90 tackles and seven interceptions en route to becoming an All-American. That year, he competed in the 1999 Aztec Bowl against the Mexican National Team in Mexico City. During that game, Peterson collected more than 90 yards on two punt returns and recorded three tackles and two pass break-ups on the way to a 44-13 victory.

While a student, Peterson’s civic activities included serving a term as vice president of the accounting club and attending the annual NCAA leadership conference.

Peterson stayed involved in athletics after graduation, serving as a football and basketball coach in his community.
