Clarence L. Mackey

Clarence L. Mackey was a four-sport athlete during his time at Emory & Henry. His contributions and accomplishments as a football player earned him the recognition of being inducted posthumously into the Sports Hall of Fame during its charter year, alongside his younger brother, Paul Mackey.

Mackey was captain of the Wasps and an all-state end in 1930, winding up a four-year stretch during which Emory & Henry lost only three football games. Additionally, he played guard for the basketball team, was pitcher on the baseball team, and threw shot put, discus, and javelin for the track & field team.

After graduating, Mackey did graduate work at Ohio State, Ohio University, and University of Tennessee. He went on to become head football coach and teach physical education and mathematics at Harvey High School in Painesville until he was forced to retire because of illness in 1963.

Clarence Mackey died on at the age 56 following a long illness.
