Jim Brooks

Class of 1992 / Inducted 2026 / Football

A native of Bulls Gap, Tennessee, Jim Brooks has distinguished himself as both an outstanding student-athlete and an impactful supporter of Emory & Henry athletics. A 1992 graduate of Emory & Henry, Brooks has left a lasting legacy through his accomplishments on the football field and his extraordinary commitment to the University.

Brooks was a member of the Emory & Henry football program from 1988-1991, contributing to four highly successful seasons that produced a combined 28-12 overall record and an impressive 15-2 mark in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Wasps captured two ODAC championships during his career, winning conference titles in 1988 and 1990.

An offensive lineman, Brooks was part of the team rotation during his first two seasons before earning a starting role in 1990 and 1991. His senior season culminated with First Team All-ODAC, First Team VaSID All-State and Roanoke Times Second Team All-State honors in 1991. As a key member of the offensive line, he helped lead some of the most productive offenses in program history. The 1991 team led the ODAC in rushing offense at 216.7 yards per game, while the 1990 squad topped the conference in passing offense and ranked 26th nationally in scoring offense at 31.7 points per game. In 1990, Brooks helped pave the way for ODAC leading rusher Scotty Verran. The 1988 team led the conference in both total offense and rushing offense, ranking 23rd nationally in rushing with 227.0 yards per game.

Beyond his accomplishments as a player, Brooks has had a transformational impact on Emory & Henry athletics through his generosity and leadership. Jim and his family were the major contributors to the construction of the football fieldhouse, appropriately named the Brooks Fieldhouse. Their support, along with numerous other contributions to the athletic department through the years, has enhanced the experience of countless student-athletes and strengthened the future of Emory & Henry athletics. He was given the 12th Man Award in 2006 for his philanthropic work for the University.

For his achievements on the football field, his dedication to his alma mater, and his enduring commitment to supporting student-athletes, Jim Brooks is a most deserving inductee into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame.
