Joseph L. Rusek, Jr.

Class of 1958 / Inducted 1976 / Football

Joe Rusek, Jr., a three-time All-State guard in the late 1950s, was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1976. Rusek was a four-year letterman on the Wasps’ football squad. In 1957, he was named to the All-American Methodist Team.

Rusek went on to a career in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator serving in school districts in Southwest Virginia, East Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. He earned a master’s degree from Radford University in 1973.

In 1968, Rusek was named the Upper Lakes Conference Coach of the Year. His civic activities have included the American Association of Football Coaches and local, state, and national education associations.
