Katy Dowe Treash
Katy Dowe Treash stands among the most accomplished and impactful student-athletes in Emory & Henry softball history. A four-year starter, three-time team captain, and two-sport standout, she combined exceptional athletic performance, leadership, and consistency to help elevate the Wasps to one of the most successful offensive eras in program history.
From 1999 through 2002, Dowe Treash was the cornerstone of an Emory & Henry softball program that established many of the offensive standards still found in the record books today. A dominant hitter and dependable defensive presence behind the plate, she posted a career batting average of .398 while collecting 191 hits, 140 RBIs, and 61 doubles. At the time of her graduation, she held school records for career doubles, hits, RBIs, and putouts, while also ranking among the ODAC’s all-time leaders in each category.
Her 61 career doubles set both Emory & Henry and ODAC records and remain tied for the school record more than two decades later. She also finished her career with 585 putouts, a school record at the time and one of the top totals in conference history. Her 140 career RBIs ranked fifth all-time in the ODAC upon graduation and remain among the top marks in program history, while her 191 career hits and .398 batting average continue to place her among the greatest hitters ever to wear the Blue and Gold.
Dowe Treash was equally dominant on a season-by-season basis. She batted better than .400 in three of her four seasons, highlighted by a .429 average, 41 RBIs, and .627 slugging percentage in 2001. She followed with another outstanding campaign in 2002, batting .406 with 42 RBIs, 18 doubles, and a .494 on-base percentage while helping lead the Wasps to a 31-12-1 record. Her 18 doubles in 2002 and 17 doubles in 2001 still rank among the best single-season totals in school history, while her 22 walks in 2001 stood as the program record for 15 years.
Her excellence earned widespread recognition. In 2002, she was named Second Team All-ODAC at catcher, First Team All-State, First Team Verizon Academic All-District, and a Second Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region selection. That same year, she received the prestigious Hall Award as Emory & Henry’s top female athlete, sharing the honor with fellow standout Kelly Smith.
Dowe Treash’s contributions extended beyond the softball field. As a four-year starting setter for the volleyball program, she amassed 2,390 career assists, ranking among the best setters in school history, and recorded 90 career service aces. Her 59-assist performance in a single match remains one of the top marks in the program record book and reflects her versatility as a collegiate athlete.
Beyond the statistics and accolades, Dowe Treash played a vital role in shaping some of the most successful teams in Emory & Henry softball history. The teams she helped lead from 1999 through 2002 occupy four of the top five spots in program history for team batting average and rank among the best offensive teams the program has ever produced.
Athletic excellence runs deep in the Dowe family. Katy is the sister of Emory & Henry Athletics Hall of Fame member Adam Dowe, who was inducted in 2006 following a distinguished football career, further cementing the family’s lasting legacy within the institution.
While her accomplishments on the field are extraordinary, those who know Katy Dowe Treash often point first to her character. A respected leader, dedicated teammate, and gracious representative of Emory & Henry Athletics, she earned the admiration of coaches, teammates, and opponents alike.
