Lynn Hill Ellis
Lynn Hill Ellis, a native of Glade Spring, Virginia, played four years of varsity tennis and volleyball during her time at Emory & Henry College. Her 1993 induction into the Sports Hall of Fame was in recognition of her prowess on the tennis court.
Ellis played at the number two singles spot behind fellow Hall of Fame member Lisa Countiss. In 1979, Ellis’ junior year, she and her doubles partner finished third in state competition. During the dynamic duo’s senior year, the Wasps ranked twelfth in the country and Ellis herself ranked fourth in the state in singles. The team won the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) state and regional titles, and Ellis and Countiss won the state doubles title. In her time at E&H, the tennis team collected 44 consecutive wins against small college teams and took triumphs over scholarship teams from Radford University and East Tennessee State University.
After graduating, Ellis taught and coached in Chesterfield County, Virginia, before moving to Tennessee with her family in 1980.
