Tammy Farnsworth
Richard “Tammy” Farnsworth, a 1951 graduate of Emory & Henry College, played offensive line on the Wasps football team that played in the Burley and Tangerine Bowls under Coach Conley Snidow. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.
Farnsworth was a teacher, football coach, and school administrator for 24 years and served over eight years on the Washington County School Board. He retired from Clinchfield Coal Company as a safety instructor. Additionally, he was a VHSL basketball and football official of 35 years and also worked as an Old Dominion Athletic Conference official.
In addition to his membership in the E&H Sports Hall of Fame, Farnsworth has also been honored with a VHSL Distinctive Service Award and was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Richard Farnsworth passed away on January 25, 2013.
