William G. Bryant
Bill Bryant, a 1965 graduate of Emory & Henry, played lineman for the Wasps football team. During his sophomore year he was named to the All-Virginia Small College football team and a Little All-America third-teamer. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1973 in recognition of his athletic achievements.
Bryant coached football at Galax High School for twelve years, eight as an assistant coach and four as a head coach during which time he forged a 28-12 record. During his time at Galax, he was also a highly successful baseball coach, winning four New River District Championships, a Region IV Championship, and competing for a state title. In 1971, he was honored by the Galax City Council for outstanding contribution to the baseball program at Galax High School. He later became head football coach at Marion High School.
William Bryant died on August 16, 2010 at age 66 after a long battle with cancer.
